29+ Tire Testing – Chupacabra – Problem # 1

One of our blog readers, Max, posted a comment below on 20150612, stating his similar experience and included a url to this image:


This looks pretty much identical to the hole in the bead of my tire. Hmm.

    hi ridealongside!
    unfortunately i had exactly the same issue! bead ripped right along the rim after a light rim-strike. never seen anything like that!
    the stan’s eventually did seal it up, but i had to replace the tires (i got maxxis chronicles) to go on a long trek this summer.
    can’t really trust the chupacabra out in the wilderness, after this happened.

    What size are your rims? 12psi seems quite low. I run 15psi front and 18psi rear on a 50mm rim. Lot of technical trail riding (roots, rocks, drops, etc. No issues so far.

      I am running Velocity Blunt 35 rims. They are 35mm outer, 30mm inner diameter. I am 165lbs, which may make a difference too. Thanks for your comment!
